Wine of the Week - 2008 Ravenswood Big River Zinfandel
The Big River Vineyard, planted in the stunning red
manzanita soils of Alexander Valley in the early 1900s, has
been exceedingly well taken care of during its long life. The
excellent vineyard practices that have always been used—
including crop thinning, crown suckering, and canopy
management—almost guarantee a well-rounded, complex,
and satisfying wine.
The 2008 Big River is dense reddish blue in color. Hints of
fennel, oak-spiced roasted nuts and dark berries on the nose.
Plummy, ripe mouth-filling flavors with a long, soft, fruit and
oak-driven finish help make this wine a deeply concentrated,
